How to have your photography choosen for movie posters and bookcovers?
I do some very interesting artistic photography and I would like to know how I can submit them for movies and or bookcovers.. Do I just have to put my photographs on a stock site, is that the only way?
You’re putting B before A. Publishers and film-makers have an idea of what they want for artwork. Then they go and find somebody who can produce it. You’ve got a body of work that you want to show to producers and publishers. But you don’t know what their needs are. That’s a fundamental disconnect. You need to establish your reputation before you will appear on their radar screens.
There are multiple approaches. Submitting to a stock site is straightforward. However, the odds of being discovered are low. Publishers have conferences where you can rent a booth to display your work. It’s costly and your work must be exceptional. I’m not sure if the cinema world has similar opportunities. You should also have your own web site. You might also look into approaching galleries to have your work shown (New York for publishers, Los Angeles for film studios). It’s not going to be easy. It could take years of relentless effort and a killer portfolio.
